It’s official: as reported by Matt Cutts, Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking. There is an official discussion at google webmaster central as well as a complete guide about the meta tag usage.

Impostare AdSense per i domini con Dreamhost

Da tempo ormai mi affido all’hosting di Dreamhost noto hosting provider e domain name registrar – operativo già dal 1996 a Los Angeles.
Dreamhost offre veramente un servizio professionale ad un prezzo molto concorrenziale rispetto ad altri hosting provider e soprattutto:

la possibilità di avere domini e sottodomini in numero illimitato in uno stesso account;
pannello di controllo con la possibilità di installare in pochi click i cms più noti (WordPress, Joomla), utilità per l’e-commerce (ZenCart) e forum (phpbb);
interfacciamento con Gmail e Google apps;
un credito di 50$ da spendere con Google AdWords.

Vediamo dunque come configurare ‘Adsense per i domini’ che come riporta Goggle stesso ‘consente ai publisher che dispongono di domini non utilizzati di aiutare gli utenti a raggiungere informazioni pertinenti presentando contenuti in tali domini.’

clicchiamo su ‘Manage Domains’ nel menù in alto a sinistra
ATTENZIONE – MOLTO IMPORTANTE: se abbiamo già registrato il dominio e attivato l’opzione ‘fully hosted’ dobbiamo procedere con l’eliminazione dell’opzione in quanto i DNS record (A e CName) risultano già impostati e non modificabili; in corrispondenza della colonna ‘Web Hosting’ clicchiamo su ‘delete’ e aspettiamo qualche minuto per l’aggiornamento dei DNS;
clicchiamo ora su ‘DNS’ per il dominio corrispondente e andiamo ad editare i campi
Name – inseriamo www (come scritto anche nelle linee guida di google);
Type – selezioniamo CNAME e poi clicchiamo su ‘add record now’
Stesso discorso per i quattro Record Type (a) che genera Adsense.

Jesolo hotel booking e Sardinia bed breakfast rappresentano un esempio di Adsense per i domini.

File .htaccess su Register.it

Capita sempre più spesso di utlizzare la tecnica denominata URL Rewriting che permette la riscrittura di URL ‘SEO friendly’. Affinchè questa tecnica possa funzionare, come ben sappiamo, è necessario che nella root del nostro sito sia presente il file .htaccess.
Recentemente ho avuto modo di lavorare per un cliente il cui sito era ospitato su un server di register.it; con grande sorpresa ho scoperto però che non è sufficiente caricare via FTP il file in questione perchè l’URL Rewriting abbia effetto.
Di seguito vi illustro la procedura che mi è sembrata più corretta.

Per settare correttamente il file .htaccess su register.it:

andare su >Gestione Hosting;
configurazioni avanzate > Impostazioni;
in Options cliccare su ‘Aggiungi’;
dal menù a tendina scegliere ‘+SymLinksIfOwnerMatch’ e cliccare su avanti;
viene aggiunto il valore ‘SymLinksIfOwnerMatch’ che ci permetterà di eseguire il rewrite.

Per quanto riguarda il pannello di controllo abbiamo finito.
Ora aprite il vostro .htaccess e aggiungete all’inizio del documento:

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteBase /

Caricate tutto via FTP e testate.

I’ve just published my latest website bed breakfast Sardegna a directory which lists bed and breakfast, flats and houses where spending holidays in the island of Sardegna – Italy.
It’s based on wordpress with a simple and clean theme I designed myself.

Page speed issues.

Following up my article on Page load speed and website optimization I decided to remove all the graphics from this blog as I noticed a general slowing down; Google webmaster tools helped me a lot in finding the reasons of slow performances , I suggest consulting it more often.
I’ll try and study another simpler theme asap but for now… just text :)
